Letter From 50th Reunion Chairman
Tom Corboy
13March08
With nearly 200 classmates responding to the query regarding a Spring
or Fall reunion for our 50th, the sentiment ran over four to one in
favor of the Spring. Eighty-one percent expressed agreement with the
class Executive Committee's 2007 decision to gather in Annapolis just
prior to graduation in 2011. Our reunion will be the last weekend in
April, encompassing four days, April 28 - May 1, 2011. The headquarters
hotel will be the new four-star Westin at Park Place - a little over
a mile from USNA at the intersection of West St. and Taylor Ave (runs
past the stadium to West St). Two hundred rooms are being held for us
with acceptance of reservations beginning a year prior to the event.
Another one hundred rooms are being held at the Historic Inns of Annapolis
- encompassing three properties around State Circle downtown; Maryland
Inn, Gov. Calvert House, and Robert Johnson Inn.
It is suggested that those wishing to take public transportation to
Annapolis, and/or would like to be within easy walking distance of USNA,
opt for the Historic Inns. They are right at the top of Main St. If
you plan to rent a car, and use it multiple times a day, the Westin
may be a better choice since there is ample parking right under the
hotel. Another factor, of course is cost. The Westin is newer, a little
more luxurious, more spacious, and will cost about 35% more than the
Historic Inns. The Historic Inns are equally nice in appointments and
furnishings, but the rooms are a bit smaller and may be irregularly
shaped as one finds in many colonial era structures. The greatest difference
is, not surprisingly, in the size and luxuriousness of the bathrooms.
Either hotel is a "first choice."

50th Reunion Chairman - Tom Corboy
Tom Corboy has taken on the challenging position of "Chairman"
for our 50th Reunion. Tom played a big part in the 45th as one of Joe
Allegretti's reunion team members. Tom was responsible for the banquet,
and is well acquainted with both long range and immediate decisions
that must be made to ensure a smooth and successful major event. Tom
lives in Annapolis. He is the Executive Vice President of our Class
Executive Committee and he has instituted a monthly luncheon in Annapolis
for area classmates (see Schedule of Events). This will be an important
reunion, so let's give Tom every bit of help he may need along the way.
